Manningham City Council is committed to the future growth and sustainability of our shopping precincts - from our major regional shopping centre Westfield Doncaster through to our many neighbourhood centres and local villages.
These shopping centres and villages are often referred to as "activity centres" - places for people to live, work, shop and socialise. In Manningham, we are lucky to have such a great mix of vibrant shopping centres, providing access to a range of services and facilities.
As part of our efforts to support and sustain our activity centres, Council adopted the Manningham Activity Centre Strategy in 2005 (PDF, 3,663KB, new window) and the Manningham Local Activity Centres Plan in 2007 (PDF, 3MB, new window). These two documents provide the basis for future planning and development of our retail and business centres, based on the current social, economic and environmental trends.
The documents also provide a vision for the future of our centres, identifying areas of strength that can be built upon and areas needing improvement. The most vibrant and successful centres are easy to get to and provide a good mix of products and services.
We see a strong future for our retail centres and villages in Manningham, with highly accessible, visible and vibrant centres. We think each of our centres has a distinct marketing niche catering to the diverse and changing needs of its own local market. Our centres will form an integrated network that will make for a healthier and more liveable city. We will continue to ensure that our centres are the focus for services, facilities, transport, employment, social interaction and housing diversity.
